In an interview for the Monitor Media Agency, Stepaniuc stated that "paraphrasing Vladimir Ilici Lenin, only the press that has a bag of money is independent”. In Stepaniuc’s opinion, we have “only a partially independent press.” <\/p>\n

Assessing the situation of the press in Moldova, Stepaniuc said that “most of the media means are competitive and competent,” but “the largest television and radio stations have few qualified journalists." On the other hand, the cited source considers, “only the rich structures can employ qualified journalists paying them well, equip the editorial offices and make the press free. Only they will survive.” <\/p>\n

Answering the question how justified is the drawing up of the draft law on professional secret (worked out by the Information and Security Service) and of the draft law on information (worked out by the Ministry of Information Development), Stepaniuc said that “the state bureaucracy hinders the freedom of press, the access to information \/…\/ The majority faction in the Parliament will not accept the secretization of certain areas of the state. The notion “secretization” must be elucidated in the legislation”. At the same time, Stepaniuc asserted that those two draft laws will not be adopted by the Parliament. “The Government was instructed to withdraw these drafts,” Victor Stepaniuc saisd. <\/p>\n

In another connection, the quoted source said that he supports the denationalization of the local press, though “this fact is an illusion.” “We will adopt a law regarding the denationalization of the local press, but you will see that it will not lead to anything good.
