Thus, the majority of Chisinau residents had to go on foot or to use other types of transport. <\/p>\n<p>At an extraordinary meeting municipal councilors have finally agreed to examine the issue of transport tariffs and the eventual rise in tariffs for minibus travels. <\/p>\n<p>Head of the Private Transporters Association, Ion Mamaliga, municipal councilor told the press the situation is critical. About 90 percent of minibus drivers did not go to work. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The minibus drivers continued to work until now hoping that a decision would be taken to change the situation. Yet, some officials are speculating on the eve of the electoral campaign, trying to tergiversate the examination of this issue,&rdquo; Mamaliga said. <\/p>\n<p>According to the General Manager of the City Bus Park Anatol Gheorghita, municipal public transport cannot face the great flow of travelers that went up by 20-30 percent in comparison to the ordinary days. As many as 84 buses were circulating on routes on Tuesday, compared to 110 as it should. &ldquo;The only way out would be to reestablish the transport in normal economic conditions, so as to face the great number of travelers and avoid the crowdedness in buses and trolleybuses,&rdquo; Gheorghita said. <\/p>\n<p>A minibus driver from route No. 124 told REPORTER.MD that he did not go to work and would continue to protest until CMC takes a positive decision. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have worked at a loss since the latest increases in oil prices. We spent 300 lei per day for oil. We still have to pass technical inspection and the winter is ahead, we need winter tires that cost over one thousand lei, money that we earn in one month,&rdquo; he added. <\/p>\n<p>Another minibus driver from route No.115 said 2 lei is a very low price, taking into account the rise in the price of oil. &ldquo;It is a derisive price. We transport people from one end of the city to the other at the price of a WC ticket,&rdquo; the driver said with indignation. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I am ready to continue staying tomorrow at the terminus if no decision is taken, as it is impossible to work under such conditions,&rdquo; driver from route No. 121 said. <\/p>\n<p>A great number of travelers were bewildered by the passive protest actions of the minibus drivers. At the same time they agreed with the idea of increasing the tariffs taking into account the price of oil. <\/p>\n<p>Municipal councilors have not taken a decision in this respect yet. The media representatives have been asked to leave the meeting hall. <\/p>\n<p>Prior to this, on September 23, the Chisinau Municipal Council rejected the draft project on the increase of tariffs for minibus travels from 2 to 3 lei. Communist and Christian Democrat councilors argued their decision by the fact that concrete calculations regarding the losses and incomes of transporters have not been presented.
