The heavy rainfalls early on August 25 in the district of Briceni increased the level of water in the Vilia river. They flooded more than 30 houses and 210 hectares of agricultural crops, according to sources in the district directorate of the Emergency Situations Department (DSE) in the Interior Ministry. <\/p>\n

According to the DSE press service, the level of water in Vilia rose by three metres. As a result, the rains flooded the bridge on the Briceni-Larga route, while the road on this segment was blocked up. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA, Stefan Lavric, chief specialist in the DSE in Briceni, said that no victims were registered until now. "The heavy hail rains flooded six homes and 80 hectares of agricultural crops in the village of Beleavinti, 9 houses and 5 wells in the Balasinesti village, and 15 houses in the village of Cotiujeni, Lavric noted. <\/p>\n

According to Lavric, the rise of the water level in Vilia came after the palsy of the pond in the Medveja village was broken. Six houses and 10 hectares of agricultural crops were destroyed in this village. <\/p>\n

The water level in Vilia dropped and roads reopened. The settlements concerned were not disconnected from energy and telephone networks. <\/p>\n
