Valeriu Rusu, spokesman for the Defence Ministry, said about 50 troops were cleaning the streets in Posta Veche districts of the capital. Another 40 were helping residents in Gratiesti village to evacuate their belongings. They all work twelve hours a day, he said. <\/p>\n

About 170 men from the Chisinau garrison had been assisting residents in the capital and surrounding communes since August 19. <\/p>\n

Heavy rains on August 18 and 19 flooded 38 homes in Chisinau, mainly on the streets of Hipodromului, Ceucari, Iazului, Aerodromului, Calea Orheiului, Calea Iesilor, and Calea Mosilor. <\/p>\n

The Emergency Situations Department has said no one has died during the disasters, which affected about 162 settlements across the country. The districts of Edinet, Criuleni, Briceni, and Falesti, and the capital Chisinau were hit the worst. <\/p>\n

In some parts of Moldova, the rains damaged the roofs of private homes and public institutions, destroyed the crop fields and made the roads unusable. <\/p>\n
