Mismanagement of sewerage systems across Moldova just added to the crisis mishandling and was one of the causes of flooding, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev told the regional public authorities Saturday. <\/p>\n

The cabinet chief said during a video-conference with the district executives that they needed to restore the existing or build new sewerage systems. He also announced that the central government would work out a mechanism of effective management of water resources. <\/p>\n

The Emergency Situations Department said all 162 settlements hit by blackouts were reconnected to the grid by early August 21, Sunday. <\/p>\n

The districts of Edinet, Briceni, Ungheni, Drochia, Nisporeni, Falesti, Soldanesti, and Straseni districts have been hit the worst. In Briceni district, at least 60 homes have been flooded. At least 320 hectares of crop fields are under water. In the capital Chisinau several streets were drowned and car parkings were severely damaged. Many private homes at the outskirts were flooded. <\/p>\n

Workers were urgently deployed at the Stinca-Costesti dam to lower the water volume where it rose by around 500 cubic metres per second; The maximum level permitted is 1,200 cubic metres per second. <\/p>\n

Relief work continued throughout the weekend and on Monday, the department said. Most telephone lines were restored and most homes that were flooded got rid of water. <\/p>\n
