The Moldovan parliament today passed in the first reading a draft law on preventing and combating human trafficking. <\/p>\n

The initiative comes from the Moldovan Justice Ministry. The authors of the draft have taken into account the international experience in the field, Council of Europe’s recommendations, the UN Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and the Palermo Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, particularly women and children. <\/p>\n

The document establishes the legal framework to prevent and combat trafficking in persons, assure the protection of rights and interests of traffic’s victims, including by offering social, medical, psychological and material assistance. <\/p>\n

Statistic data show that about 400 criminal cases were opened in 2004 under charges of human trafficking, which is twice as much as in 2003. <\/p>\n

The MPs today also adopted in the final reading a draft law on ecologically sound agro-food production. <\/p>\n

The existing law regulates the process of obtaining ecologic agro-food production without using polluting chemical substances, as well as the selling of vegetal and animal products. The law includes certain provisions on genetically changed organisms and their derivatives. <\/p>\n

Farmers cultivating biological products will have to give up applying polluting technologies, and use highly adaptable plant breeds, species or varieties, as well as rationally use conventional energy resources. <\/p>\n

Production rules will have to include the principles of ecologically sound agrifoodstuff comprised in the regulations of the Council of Europe and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, as well as other international and European Union normative documents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
