\"\"Socially vulnerable groups of population in the Calaras raion – invalids, lonely pensioners, large families – will be provided with radio sets free of charge in the framework of a pilot project being realized by the Moldovan Government jointly with local governance organs. <\/p>\n

The Calaras authorities have already submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development a list of 5.7 thousand potential recipients, and the Ministry has selected three local manufacturers to supply the radio sets – Raut plant of Balti city, and Mezon and Sigma companies of Chisinau. Now the raion authorities will select radio models most suitable in terms of price and quality. The said 3 producers have at their warehouses sufficient quantity of sets at prices ranging between 120 lei and 189 lei. <\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, the Moldovan Government has decided to allot from its Reserve Fund 220 thousand lei for the pilot project, but this is only about one-third of the necessary sum. The rest means are to be provided by Calaras raion governance organs. <\/p>\n

If this 2005 Calaras pilot project is a success, similar radio projects will be carried out in other Moldovan localities.
