The President of the Soros LLP Management Foundation, Head of the Open Society Institute George Soros stated intention to render assistance in professional upgrading of state employees in Moldova. The guest stated this during his meeting with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin here last Friday evening. <\/p>\n

George Soros told Voronin about his intention to impart a new formula to the Soros Moldova Foundation’s strategy. He said he is aware about the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to democratize the society and join European standards and principles. <\/p>\n

The prominent billionaire said he sees the Soros Moldova Foundation’s destination in backing the state institutions’ capacities, in introducing programs in education and public health fields. He also considers it timely that the Foundation should promote Moldova’s integration into the European Union and attract external financing for introduction of various strategies and programs called to bring Moldova closer to EU standards. <\/p>\n

Mr. Soros expressed his Foundation’s readiness to work out and introduce, in cooperation with European structures, a program of development for Moldova. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin welcomed Mr. Soros’ coming to Chisinau. The President said he shared the ideals of Open Society consolidation in Eastern Europe, and highlighted the Soros Foundation’s contribution to the Moldovan society’s democratization, development of civil initiative, promotion of open society’s institutes, structures and mentality. <\/p>\n

"At the present-day stage of Moldova’s democratic maturity, the country’s leadership learns how to interact with non-governmental organizations, for it is interested in consolidating the principles of a law-governed state and civil dialog", said Vladimir Voronin. <\/p>\n

The President expressed Chisinau’s readiness to continue with Soros Foundation cooperation in such spheres as economy liberalization, consolidation of the principles of democracy and culture diversity, advancement along the European integration path, governance optimization, and other. <\/p>\n
