\nThe cabinet of ministers closed up the Russian-language governmental newspaper Nezavisimaya Moldova on Wednesday. Also, the paper administration says that Nezavisimaya Moldova will be published in continuation four times a week, but it will be reorganised. <\/p>\n

According to Premier Vasile Tarlev, the decision to close up the state-owned enterprise Nezavisimaya Moldova is welcome and it was discussed for a long time. "This is the first step forward reformation of the state press," Tarlev assured. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA, Nezavisimaya Moldova chief editor Iurii Tiscenco said that the decision to close up the paper was not a surprise for the editorial staff, but it came "very rapidly". He noted that the paper will be published in continuation in the existing format for two more months, in line with legislation in effect. "The paper will be published after this term as well, but it will not be governmental anymore. We are looking for founders and we have already found somebody who is ready to finance us," Tiscenco added. <\/p>\n

Closure of the two governmental papers Nezavisimaya Moldova and Moldova Suverana was one of conditions of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD) for election of Vladimir Voronin as president of Moldova. PPCD faction leader Vlad Cubreacov resumed this issue at the Friday sitting of the parliament. He urged "the ruling party to respect its electoral promises." <\/p>\n

Nezavisimaya Moldova is the second press institution closed up this week. The Chisinau Municipal Council started on Tuesday the closure of the municipal news agency Info-Prim.
