\"\"In January-March this year, 9.3 thousand children were born in this republic – 4.7% more than in 1Q2004. At the same period, 12.6 thousand deaths were registered – up 3.4% against one year before, the National Bureau of Statistics and Sociology has reported. <\/p>\n

Although the birth coefficient in the country went up from 9.9 to 10.5 per a thousand of population during the past 12 month period, the death coefficient was growing as well, and even faster, reaching 14.2 in 1Q2005 from 13.6 a year before. As a result, the natural population loss marked 3.7 persons per a thousand this year. <\/p>\n

60.6 percent of deaths during 1Q2005 were caused by cardio-vascular diseases, followed by other essential reasons such as malignant tumors, gastric problems, accidents, murders, and suicides. <\/p>\n

Last January-March, 5.4 thousand marriages (+22.5%) were registered in this republic, or 6 such events per a thousand of population, as well as 3.7 thousand divorces – 1.3% fewer than in 1Q2004, or 4.2 per a thousand of population. <\/p>\n

In the first quarter of the year, 356 immigrants arrived in Moldova, 144 persons received residence permits, of whom 42% were family immigrants, 34.8% came for work, and 22.8% for studying. <\/p>\n

As on the beginning of 2005, the populace in Moldova was 3.4 million (excluding the Transnistrian region), of whom 1.3 million people resided in cities and towns and 2.1 million in rural localities. <\/p>\n

Chisinau has a populace of 716.7 thousand, Balti – 128 thousand.
