The mayor of a locality of Falesti district was detained by the officers of the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCECC), being suspected of extorting and receiving a bribe of 29 Th. lei. <\/p>\n

According to a press communique released by CCECC, mayor of Hiliuti village, Falesti district, Petru Manole, received this money for favoring a businessman at the auction for selling the unfinished building of the kindergarten from the locality. <\/p>\n

The quoted source shows that according to the legislation in force, social-cultural objects can not be sold and follow to be controlled by the local public administration, but the mayor decided on illegal selling of the building at the price of 103 Th. lei, on the basis of an expertise certificate from 2000, its real value being of 320 Th. lei. <\/p>\n

Criminal proceeding, which stipulates punishment with deprivation of liberty up to 10 years, was opened against Petru Manole for committing the offence of passive corruption by extortion in large proportions. <\/p>\n

From the beginning of the current year, CCECC held three mayors that are investigated for passive corruption.
