Valeriu Pasat, former Moldovan Minister of Defense and currently Adviser to the President of RAO EES [United Electricity Networks of Russia], is continuing his research work even at the Chisinau remand prison where he was put on March 11 on charges of abusing office. <\/p>\n

His lawyer George Amihalachioae told Infotag today that Pasat is writing a book about Constantin Stere, a 20th century Moldovan writer, a part of which has already been published by Saptamina newspaper of Chisinau, and is continuing his research on Stalin’s repressions. <\/p>\n

The lawyer said that Pasat’s health had deteriorated despite his suspending a many-day-long hunger strike. "I think this is an aftermath of that strike. His old mother and father feel bad, too, and will be hospitalized in the nearest days", Amihalachioae said. <\/p>\n

Last Friday, the advocate filed an application with the Buiucani sector court of Chisinau requesting to replace Pasat’s custody with a home arrest. <\/p>\n

"The court is supposed to declare its decision to my application by the end of this week. If not, the term of Pasat’s 30-day-long arrest expires on April 21, and we hope that situation will change after this", believes the lawyer. <\/p>\n
