More than 35 percent out of about 700 youths in Chisinau who have been examined by doctors to see whether they are fit for recruitment in the armed forces have been found in poor health conditions, Boris Golban, chief of the Chisinau military service department, told the City Hall on Monday. <\/p>\n

According to Golban, another 15 youths have been allowed to remain home due to family problems or religious reasons. <\/p>\n

Under the recruitment plant, 481 youths will be enrolled in the Chisinau municipality, and 19 graduates from institutions of higher learning will serve in the National Army during a three months. <\/p>\n

Overall, 3,375 young men will be enrolled this spring. The recruitment campaign will start on May 1. <\/p>\n

The legislation in effect stipulates a 12-month term for military service, since 2002 when the parliament voted a new law on defence. Until then the military service in Moldova had lasted 18 months.
