The electronic media watchdog CCA said on Tuesday that "professionalism remained most wanted among three main pillars of the mass media in an election campaign: editorial independence, pluralism of opinion and professionalism." <\/p>\n

\"\"CCA chairman Ion Mihailo said that the lack of professionalism is "confirmed by debates at public radio and television channels, except for Euro-TV Chisinau, which had a little bit better conduct." <\/p>\n

According to Mihailo, all the radio and television channels committed abuses. The local channels such as Vocea Basarabiei, Euronova, Megan TV, Radio Sangera offered antenna time to opposition alone and presented the ruling party only in a negative context. PRO TV Chisinau has analyzed the list of candidates on behalf of the Christian Democratic People’s Party, though it refused to cover the electoral campaign. <\/p>\n

In the context, CCA members described the behaviour of Russian radio and television channels which openly supported certain electoral competitors as "absolutely rude", and urged all the foreign radio and TV channels which will want to cover the electoral campaigns to respect the CCA requirements. <\/p>\n

The chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Petru Railean, told the sitting that all the objections must be taken into account, "all the sides must receive an unbiased treatment, and all the electoral competitors must enjoy the possibility to voice their electoral message within debates, not individually, in order to let the public make a choice." <\/p>\n

Thirty air television studios and 23 radio channels covered the electoral campaign for the March 6 parliamentary scrutiny. <\/p>\n

Mihailo noted that electoral competitors appealed to CCA 45 times, and the most of appeals came from the Democratic Moldova Bloc, being notified in connection with shortcomings related to the electoral campaign coverage. He underlined that shortcomings were registered in three cases alone. <\/p>\n

Also, the CCA decided to transmit to the CEC and parliament within 30 days concrete proposals on how to amend the Election Code as suggested by former electoral competitors, as well as conclusions from international and local observers, recommendations from the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe regarding the coverage of the campaigns by the mass media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
