UK nongovernmental organization LIN\"\"KS (London Information Network on Conflicts and State-building) launched Tuesday, February 15, a two-year working program in Moldova, having as main purpose to rise the number of young voters in the parliamentary elections from March 6, 2005 and increase the young citizens’ role in the electoral process,” notes a press release of the British Embassy in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

In order to achieve this objective, LINKS will cooperate with the youth organizations of the main parties, both ruling and opposition parties, and NGOs from the country. The program is supported by the “Global Opportunities Fund” and UK Government through the agency of the British Embassy to the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

The same communiqué reads that LINKS program for 2005-2007 includes four key objectives: support for the continuous integration of the Republic of Moldova into the family of European states; for peaceful settling of the Transdniestrian conflict according to the resolutions and decisions taken by OSCE; for the process of building a democratic state mainly by increasing the institutional abilities of the Parliament and political parties and the ability of the civil society to follow and sanction the democratic process; as well as the more active involvement of youth in the political life of the country. <\/p>\n

LINKS is a nongovernmental organization with headquarters in London that deals with activities in the field of building a democratic state and peaceful settlement of the conflicts from societies that are in transition. Last year, LINKS identified Moldova as one of those five priority countries, where it will unfold its activity in the next years. The other four countries are Ukraine, Azerbaidjan, Armenia and Georgia.<\/p>\n

LINKS executive director Dennis Sammut states that “there is a large political consensus in the Republic of Moldova regarding the continuous integration into EU and other European institutions. We are expecting free and fair elections, with a high participation, especially of young people.” In the period of 1999-2001, in the name of the European Commission, LINKS cooperated with the Government of the country and local NGOs for the creation of the Regional Environmental Center (REC Moldova).\/\/REPORTER.MD<\/p>\n
