Over 30 NGOs from both Moldova and Romania call on the Romanian Government to call back their ambassador from Chisinau. The NGOs, part of a larger civic platform called “Action 2012,” sent a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest, saying that ambassador Marius Lazurca should be replaced due to “incompetence and ignorance” in accomplishing his duties with regard to the “special relationship” between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The complainants said that they will organize protests if their request will get no answer. The organizations complain that Marius Lazurca did not organize any “notable events” on December 1, when Romania celebrated its National Day.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the ambassador is blamed for the refusal to issue Romanian visas to several Moldovan students seeking to travel to Bucharest that day to participate at the manifestations of the National Day.<\/p>\n

“The diplomatic mission was actually inexistent in the public sphere of the Republic of Moldova,” Marius Lulea, the head of the Culture, History and Education Centre said. “The mistakes of the Romanian ambassador sparked discontent among the Romanian community. If we will not receive any answer, we will organize events to express our disagreement.”<\/p>\n
