European Union (EU) should support more the EU aspirations of its partners located in Eastern Europe, members of the Eastern Partnership, said the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in a resolution adopted on Thursday.<\/p>\n

According to the resolution, “the EU must use all the tools it has, including aid, trade, visa waivers and energy-security projects in a ‘more strategic and flexible policy’ to support its eastern partners choosing to strengthen their ties with Europe.”<\/p>\n

Moreover, the MEPs call on the EU and member states to respond to the pressure exerted by Russia on the Eastern Partnership countries by considering counter-measures if Russia violates any World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations.<\/p>\n

The resolution welcomed the initialing of the Association Agreement with the Republic of Moldova at the Vilnius summit last month, hoping they will be signed as soon as possible. The MEPs called on the EU Commission to make sure that the citizens of Moldova will enjoy tangible benefits from this agreement in the near future.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the MEPs welcomed the decision to grant Moldovans a visa-free travel regime to the Schengen zone, decision that is likely to go into force in 2014.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
