A vote of no-confidence against the Moldovan Government led by Iurie Leanca failed on Wednesday. The Communist Party of Moldova sought to dismiss the cabinet, claiming that Mr. Leanca betrayed Moldova while initialing the Association Agreement with the European Union at the end of November.<\/p>\n

The motion failed as it did not meet the necessary number of votes (51), getting only 35.<\/p>\n

Communist lawmakers were unsatisfied with the initialization of the Association Agreement, namely because the content, which exceeds 900 pages, was not published before the Premier signed it. Other Communists said that the text was supposed to be initialized in Romanian, not English.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Leanca was surprised to learn that the Parliament which appointed the current pro-European Government tries to oust it.<\/p>\n

“I am surprised to hear that the initialization of a document which enjoys popular support and is a task of the Government, is subject of a no confidence vote,” Iurie Leanca said in his address in front of the MPs.<\/p>\n

The Premier argued that the national legislation does not obligate the state to make public details of any negotiation process, especially the international ones.<\/p>\n

He criticized the head of the Communist Party, Vladimir Voronin that during his term-in-office as president (2001-2009), the Kozak Memorandum for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process <\/span>was secretly negotiated<\/span>. According to Mr. Leanca, the document “was negotiated in backstage and initialed in just one language – Russian.”<\/span><\/p>\n

After his speech in the Parliament, Mr. Voronin gibed the Premier, saying that he is impressed by Mr. Leanca’s speech.<\/p>\n

“I am very impressed,” the Communist lawmaker said. “When we will get back to power, this will not help you. We will not appoint you for any positions; don’t praise yourself so much. Now, on serious matters: How does the GDP constitute?”<\/p>\n

In reply, Iurie Leanca said that this is not the topic of the motion, but he warmly invites Mr. Voronin for a public debate to discuss any issues he is interested in.<\/p>\n
