While the Moldovan Government is in Vilnius these days for a historic summit that brings the country even closer to the European Union, dozens of supporters of the Communist Party, together with some Communist lawmakers rallied on Thursday in front of the EU Delegation to Chisinau.<\/p>\n

The demonstrators protested against Moldova’s European integration program, especially on the day when the country initials an Association Agreement with EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit. They are complaining about that fact that the content of the negotiated deal was not made public before the initialization procedure.<\/p>\n

However, Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said on Thursday that Communist MPs were informed about each step of the negotiation process and no such questions should arise. According to her, the official text of the deal will be made public next week.<\/p>\n

Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenco told ProTV that they are protesting against the policies promoted by the European Union.<\/p>\n

“We did not come here to protest against the European Union, but rather against the policies promoted by the EU and against its colonial attitude over the Republic of Moldova,” Grigore Petrenco said, quoted by ProTV.<\/p>\n

The head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola said that everyone has the right to a peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

“I just went to see Mr. Voronin [leader of Communist Party] and I said ‘hi’ to him,” Mr. Tapiola said. “EU respects the principle of freedom of assembly and the right of every citizen to express their opinion peacefully.”<\/p>\n

The protesters installed some tents in front of the EU Delegation to Chisinau. According to them, their rally will last until Saturday. However, Chisinau townhall deemed illegal the Communists’ protest given that they blocked some streets and installed the tents without prior notification. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
