Moldova’s separatist conflict of Transnistria is listed as a priority in the newly-established governing coalition deal in Germany.<\/p>\n

After weeks of talks between Angela Merkel’s conservatives (Christian Democrat Union – CDU) and center-left Sigmar Gabriel’s socialists (Social Democrat Party – SPD), the sides reached an agreement on Wednesday morning to form a coalition of governing Germany over the next four years.<\/p>\n

In their 185-page-long <\/a>coalition agreement the sides agreed also on Germany’s foreign policy for the upcoming years.<\/p>\n

According to their deal, Germany wants to bolster cooperation with Russia on security matters by taking into account their immediate neighbors. The agreement explicitly stated that Germany is interested in working towards finding solutions for the conflicts in their neighborhood, namely in Transnistria.<\/p>\n

“Security in and for Europe can only be achieved with and not against Russia,” their deal said. “We want to work together with Russia in the field of conflict resolution of our common neighborhood and we expect progress, especially in the Transnistrian issue.”<\/p>\n

Germany has been a steady supporter of finding a solution to the Transnistrian conflict, the country being the host of several formal and informal meetings in the past between the sides involved in the conflict resolution process.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
