Russian President’s envoy for Transnistria Dmitry Rogozin warned the European Union that once the Association Agreement with Moldova is signed, the EU might encounter a conflict at its boundary.<\/p>\n

“Lacking a dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and Transnistria may ‘unfreeze’ the conflict in the region,” Dmitry Rogozin said, quoted by RIA Novosti<\/a> news agency.<\/p>\n

International experts say that Transnistria is a “frozen” conflict because it did not evolve in any direction in 20 years of conflict settlement.<\/p>\n

Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca reacted to Mr. Rogozin’s statements. He urged the Russian politician “not to measure the temperature” anymore but rather try to find solutions for the Transnistrian conflict.<\/p>\n

"I think that Mr. Rogozin should be concerned with creating conditions for conflict settlement based upon the official position of the Russian Federation and his mandate. He should not measure the temperature and tell that the situation is frozen or will unfreeze,” Premier Iurie Leanca said.<\/p>\n

Transnistrian so-called authorities complained recently about being “ignored” while Moldova and EU have set the rules for their prospective Association Agreement.<\/p>\n

According to Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman, the Moldovan officials have repeatedly invited the separatist administration to participate at the Moldova-EU negotiation process.<\/p>\n

Few weeks ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit, Transnistria wants to be paid attention to. Transnistrian chief negotiator in the “5+2” talks, Nina Shtanski told Vesti Ekonomika<\/a> that she proposes a supplement related to the breakaway region to be attached to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement, so that the region would not be excluded from the benefits the accord will provide.<\/p>\n

Dmitry Rogozin said that the negotiations between Moldova and the EU should include the administration of Transnistria. The Russian official claimed that if Ukraine and Moldova will join a free trade area of the European Union, separatist Transnistria will experience a “full economic blockade.”<\/p>\n

The Russian Deputy Minister highlighted that “over 700,000” citizens of Moldova work in Russia and send their money back home which make up part of the state budget.<\/p>\n

“Do you want them all to come to Europe?” asked Mr. Rogozin at a press conference, quoted by Itar-Tass<\/a> news agency.<\/p>\n
