Residents of separatist region of Transnistria will no longer be sanctioned while crossing the state border of Moldova. The regulation went into force on November 8, the Government based in Chisinau informed.<\/p>\n

According to the changes, the administrative fines applied to foreigners exceeding the stay limit on the territory of Moldova will not be applied anymore for the residents of Transnistria who are traveling based on a foreign passport.<\/p>\n

The old regulation envisaged that the residents of the separatist region holding a foreign passport were subject to penalties if they were not complying with the stay conditionality, being regarding as foreign citizens originating from abroad.<\/p>\n

In order to successfully enforce the new regulation the border officials will consider the information found in the traveler’s passport, including the stamps, consular evidence papers and other indicators that prove that the document was issued by an accredited foreign diplomatic mission based in Moldova.<\/p>\n

The Government of Moldova seeks to secure its uncontrolled Eastern border along the separatist enclave in attempts to reach a visa-free travel regime from the European Union.
