Transnistria has been created to become a tool of controlling Moldova, said Klaudijus Maniokas in an interview for the Foreign Policy Association based in Chisinau. Mr. Maniokas is the head of the executive board of the Vilnius Association for Evaluation and Consultancy in the area of European legal, economic and social policies (ESTEP Lithuania).<\/p>\n

“To my understanding, this problem has been indeed created as an instrument of controlling the destiny of the Republic of Moldova. And Russia is doing its best to preserve the status-quo,” the Lithuanian expert said.<\/p>\n

He maintains that both Moldova and the European Union need more political will and perseverance to find a solution for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. Furthermore, Moldova should stick close to its European path, so that the solution could be jointly identified.<\/p>\n

“EU got involved in the solution of this problem and I think that if there is political will, energy and resources coming not only from the Republic of Moldova but also from EU, the problem will be solved,” Klaudijus Maniokas stressed. “Of course, this is not going to be easy, but if Chisinau maintains its European course, and as it comes closer in this process, a solution to this problem will be found.<\/p>\n

Mr. Maniokas urges the political elites in Moldova enhance their forces to identify a solution by getting closer to the European Union.<\/p>\n

“If there is will and resources, and especially if Moldova is recognized as a country with European perspective, then a solution will be found,” Klaudijus Maniokas said.<\/p>\n

The expert pointed out that after the initialing of the Association Agreement, Russia will not give up on exercising pressure on Moldova.<\/p>\n

“This geopolitical fight will not stop. It will be a battle in which Russia will get involved with various pressure mechanisms,” the specialist said.<\/p>\n
