Today, during the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly Session will be presented the report monitoring obligations and commitments made by Moldova in 1995 , when it joined the European forum .<\/p>\n

The Moldovan delegation, led by the Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici, recorded several amendments to be discussed after hearing the report, scheduled for the evening session. Although the resolution is good, however it should be improved because some comments and conclusions made during the visit of co- rapporteurs to our country last year, should be updated and the information adapted to today’s reality, taking into consideration the changes in the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, the Deputy Speaker said during an interview for Radio Moldova.<\/p>\n

Many changes happened after the rapporteurs’ visit. For example, there is a recommendation in the report to improve to the allocation of financial resources for local government, but draft law "On Local Public Finance" is already in the Parliament for the second reading, therefore the provision is under implementation. The Republic of Moldova is advised of the need for Prosecutor’s reform, but again, this process is already underway. The Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General created a working group to develop concepts and strategies to reform the Prosecutor’s Office. We hope that by the end of December to receive from the Government the projects to change the law in this area. We also have recommendations to strengthen the independence of the media. We have also a resolution-request to amend the Constitution of Moldova. It is an exhortation to all deputies, including the opposition, as the country’s Basic Law is amended only by a constitutional majority, not by simple majority", Liliana Palihovici said.<\/p>\n

The delegation of Moldovan Parliament will also PACE to include our country to the post-monitoring stage but whatever the decision, Moldova should continue reforms and strengthening the rule of law.
