The report on honoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Moldova will be presented during the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The meeting will be held on September 30 – October 4, 2013 in Strasbourg, the Moldovan Parliament informed in a press release.<\/p>\n

PACE co-rapporteurs, Lise Christoffersen and Piotr Wach will present the report on October 2nd. Following a debate, the PACE will adopt a resolution regarding the functioning of the democratic institutions in Moldova.<\/p>\n

According to PACE, the committee remains concerned about several issues that still need to be addressed. Among the main issues are: the reform of the Prosecutor’s Office, the separation of powers and de-politicization of judicial institutions, the fight against corruption and the effectiveness and independence of the National Anti-Corruption Center, freedom of the media, combating discrimination, revision of the electoral code, and bringing the statute and legislation of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauz-Yeri into line with national legislation so that it meets international standards.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the committee draws attention on the ongoing human rights violations in Transnistria and „regrets certain unilateral steps taken by the de facto authorities which undermine efforts to resolve the conflict.”<\/p>\n
