Moldova should actively participate in international peacekeeping missions worldwide together with the international community. Non-involvement in such military actions could isolate the country and deprive of security. The statement was made in an interview in Romanian with Moldova.ORG<\/a> by Diana Molodilo, the head of the Analysis, Monitoring and Evaluation Department of the Moldovan Ministry of Defense.<\/p>\n

Ms. Molodilo said that participating in international missions will help the soldiers to have a better military preparation gained abroad which is complying with the modern standards of fighting and defense.<\/p>\n

The official said that the Moldovan military can take part in military actions designed to prevent a conflict, peacemaking, peacebuilding and peacekeeping missions, as well as humanitarian peace missions.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense representative explained that Moldova can get involved militarily only with the Parliament’s consent and only at the request of the organizations which Moldova is member of.<\/p>\n

Moldova has currently 12 officers of the National Army participating in international missions under aegis of the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).<\/p>\n

There are two soldiers serving in Liberia, four in South Sudan, three in Ivory Cost, one in Kosovo, one in the peacekeeping department of the UN in New York and one in the OSCE Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
