The new Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola has presented his credentials to the Moldovan President, Nicolae Timofti on Wednesday. Mr. Tapiola succeeds former EU Ambassador, Dirk Schuebel who concluded his mission to Moldova last month.<\/p>\n

The new ambassador said that Moldova will continue to receive support from the EU to help the country bring its legislation in line with the European standards. He emphasized that it is important to develop confidence-building strategies between both sides of the Transnistrian conflict.<\/p>\n

“The European Union will not play geopolitical games, but will continue the assistance policy with respect to countries that share the same values,” Pirkka Tapiola said. “Any political or economic pressure aimed at the participating states of the Eastern Partnership, because of the commitments regarding the EU, is unacceptable.”<\/p>\n

Finnish Pirkka Tapiola held advisory positions in Brussels since 2004, his area of specialization being the EU’s relations with the Eastern European states. His diplomatic career began in 1994, serving in Finnish Embassies in Kiev and Bangkok, and in the OSCE Mission to Latvia.  <\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
