The countries have the right to choose themselves what is best for their future,&rdquo; eight foreign ministers said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Foreign Ministers of the so-called Nordic Baltic Eight (NB8), which encompasses Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Norway, met in Visby, Sweden on Monday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The statement, issued by the eight leaders, came in response to the recent statements made by the Russian officials about Moldova and Ukraine, the Lithuania Tribune reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&ldquo;Yes, it refers to Russia. We have lately heard statements from political scientists and top-ranking officials, saying: &lsquo;you should not sign the Association Agreement; you should not draw closer to Europe, as this will bring consequences&rsquo;. It is difficult viewing the measures as anything else than political pressure,&rdquo; Lithuania&rsquo;s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevi\u010dius told BNS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&ldquo;As far as we have heard in public, there have been repeated statements about Ukraine, and now there have been similar warnings about Moldova &ndash; allegedly it will make it more difficult to settle the Transnistria problem and any connections with Russia will have to be severed, which is illogical and untrue,&rdquo; Mr. Linkevi\u010dius added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Lithuanian official pointed out that the Russian statements are probably intended to trigger emotions in Moldova and Ukraine and prevent these countries from taking any decisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moldova was warned by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister in the last few days that economic ties may be suspended and Transnistria may be lost if the country will initial or sign any agreements with the European Union at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit that is due to take place in November.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The eight foreign ministers have announced in their joint statement that they are looking forward to initialing the Association Agreement with Moldova and sign it as soon as all the necessary conditions are met, hopefully in 2014.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&ldquo;We are looking forward to the initialing of the Association Agreements, including their DCFTA parts, with Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia at the Vilnius Summit, as well as to their signatures, when conditions are met, at the earliest possible opportunity in 2014,&rdquo; their joint statement reads. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>\u201cAny economic threat or political pressure directed against Eastern partners because of their European aspirations and engagement with the EU is unacceptable.
