The people were separated without their will from their brothers and sisters residing on the territory of Greater Romania.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On August 23, 1939 USSR&rsquo;s Commissar of Foreign Affairs, Viacheslav Molotov and Nazi Germany&rsquo;s Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop signed a pact of nonaggression. It included a Secret Additional Protocol that envisaged the division of Europe in spheres of influence. Article 3 of the Protocol stipulated that the Soviets were allowed by Nazi Germany to annex Bessarabia from Romania, Hitler expressing no interest in the region and giving full consent for this move.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Soviet occupation of Bessarabia took place during June 28 &ndash; July 3, 1940 in a rapid military intervention that left casualties behind. In August 1940 the Soviet Union formed the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic on most of annexed territory. As of that moment it became part of the USSR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Authorities in Moldova will commemorate this day in Chisinau by opening a memorial for Communist deportation victims.
