Amid international pressure, especially from the European Union, the Government of Moldova will take action to reform the General Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n

Foreign actors, such as the Council of Europe, the EU Mission to Moldova, the OSCE and the U.S. Embassy will be observers in the working group that is expected to design the new frame of the institution.<\/p>\n

A working group will be established by the General Proscutor and the Minister of Justice, Oleg Efrim.<\/p>\n

The reformation will be undertaken in several stages and is expected to be finished by 2016. Over 16 million MDL will be spent for these changes. The money will be given by the Government.<\/p>\n

General Prosecutor, Corneliu Gurin said that several constitutional changes will also be made.<\/p>\n

The main changes envisage the reviewing of the appointment and ousting process of the General Prosecutor, the drafting of several criteria for a fair and transparent selection, appointment and promotion of the prosecutors, the demilitarization of the prosecutor’s office, the reviewing of the accountability rules of the prosecutors and the removal of their general immunity.<\/p>\n

The working group will draft some law-reform proposals and will invite the civil society to debate over them. The legislative changes are expected to be undertaken in September this year.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
