In an <a href=\"http:\/\/adevarul.ro\/moldova\/politica\/wilfried-martens-1_51dd11fdc7b855ff562185d9\/index.html\">interview with Adevarul<\/a> newspaper, Mr. Martens said that Moldova meets the requirements of Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union which states that &ldquo;any European State which respects the values referred to in Article 2 and is committed to promoting them may apply to become a member of the Union.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Moldova complies with the criteria mentioned in Article 49 of the Treaty of European Union and should not apologize: the Republic of Moldova can become an EU member state if it wishes so and, of course, if it puts in place fitting policies,&rdquo; Wilfried Martens said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The President of the EPP is expected to arrive in Chisinau on Thursday to host the Eastern Partnership Summit of the EPP leaders. Among other participants are Moldova&rsquo;s Liberal-Democrat Party President Vlad Filat, Prime Minister of Moldova Iurie Leanca (PLDM), President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan (RPA President), and President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili (UNM President).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Wilfried Martens said he expects the Vilnius Summit &ndash; due to take place in November &#8211; to shed light in the final goal of the Eastern Partnership: is it an administrative project or a political process?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">&ldquo;I, personally, support the second option, but I admit that this ambiguity generates uncertainties which I hope the Vilnius Summit will fade them away,&rdquo; Mr. Martens said. &ldquo;How can we ask our partners to implement hard reforms without offering them a real political perspective?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moldovan Premier Iurie Leanca said in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2013\/07\/08\/our-european-future-should-be-acknowledged-says-moldovan-pm-iurie-leanca\/\">interview with the Euronews<\/a> that his country&rsquo;s European future should be acknowledged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Amid the Vilnius Summit the Moldovan Prime Minister urges the EU to consider the good relations between Moldova and the European Union &ldquo;because we are convinced that Moldova, being a European country, by virtue of its geography, its history, by the fact that our language is already an official language in the European Union, that we want to share the same aspirations.
