On 11-12 June, in Chisinau, will be held the last round of negotiation on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. Negotiators’ delegations will be led by Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac and the representative of the European Commission’s Department of Commerce, Luc Devigne.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar and the representative of the European Commission’s Department of Commerce, Luc Devigne will meet on Tuesday to discuss the results of the negotiations. The issue of application of DCFTA trade preferences in the districts on the left bank of Nistru will be considered.<\/p>\n

After defining the final text of the agreement, several EU internal protocol procedures will follow. The Moldovan Government hopes that initialling of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement will take place this year and the signing in 2014.<\/p>\n

Preparations of the Republic of Moldova to the negotiations started in 2010 by launching a reform to adjust legislative and regulatory provisions in 13 areas of the domestic economy to EU legislation. The first round of negotiations took place on 19-23 March 2012.<\/p>\n

The DCFTA ensures the economic integration of Moldova into the EU space and involves the gradual liberalization of trade in goods and services, free movement of labor, reduction of customs duties and non-technical barriers, abolition of quantitative restrictions and legislation approximation to the EU acquis.<\/p>\n

Unlike the current trade regime, which is an EU unilaterally granted for a limited period, the DCFTA will be a multilateral agreement concluded for an unlimited period, providing export benefits outweigh the previous regime and predictability on long long for business and investment.
