The speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Marian Lupu has been removed from office on Thursday in a Parliamentary vote. He was dismissed by  76 deputies out of 101. <\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative to oust the speaker came from the Communist MPs. The Communists, the Liberal-Democrats and some independent deputies have voted in favor, whereas the Liberals left the plenary session during the voting. <\/p>\n

Under current conditions, the Parliament will be chaired by Vice-speaker, Liliana Palihovici until a new candidate will enjoy majoritarian parliamentary support.<\/p>\n

“This is a dangerous situation. The Parliament is non-functional,” Marian Lupu said in a briefing after he was dismissed.<\/p>\n

Marian Lupu is a former member of the Communist Party. He joined the Democrat Party in 2009 saying that the Party of Communists can be hardly reformed. After joining the Democrats, Mr. Lupu was appointed the head of the Party. <\/p>\n

Marian Lupu was the head of the Parliament once again between 2005 and 2009, at that time as a representative of the Communists. <\/p>\n

This seems to be a political strife since the dismissal of the Democrat head of the Parliament was fully supported by the Communists, who “betrayed” their party, and by the Liberal-Democrats, whose former Prime Minister Vlad Filat– ousted in March in a no-confidence vote – was prohibited by the Constitutional Court to lead the Government on an acting term.<\/p>\n
