The European Parliament voted on Thursday in favor of issuing short-stay visas for several categories of people from Moldova and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Therefore, young people travelling to the EU countries for educational-related activities (sports, trainings, workshops and conferences), civil society representatives, journalists and their technical crew, NGOs, lorry and bus drivers, close relatives of EU citizens and participants in official cross-border cooperation programmes will be exempted from visa fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The European Parliament informed that the amended agreement also simplifies the criteria for multiple-entry visas for spouses, children and parents visiting Moldovan citizens legally residing in the European Union.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The visa application procedures have also been simplified. The applicants can use external service providers for a 30 Euro fee and will not necessarily have to go to the embassy in person.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moldovan officials holding biometric service passports will be exempted from visa requirements. However, this is applicable only for short stays, allowing entering, leaving and transiting the territories of the EU member states without holding a visa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A short-stay visa envisages a total of 90 days, calculated over a period of 180 days.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Romanian member of the EPP, Marian-Jean Marinescu, who is group responsible for steering the changes to the Moldova agreement through Parliament, told Moldova.ORG that the new regulation will enter into force from the moment when it will be published in the Official Paper (Monitorul Oficial). It might take up to two months before the agreement will be enforced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The European official emphasized that this move will &ldquo;encourage the country to carry out reforms in the area of freedom, security and justice and create a new opportunity for EU investment and an opening for the labor market.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moldova and the European Union are currently working on another bilateral agreement which foresees a visa-free travel regime for Moldovans wishing to travel to the Schengen zone of the EU.
