NATO member states have repeatedly promoted within the international community Moldova’s right to territorial integrity. In an interview with RFE\/RL<\/a>, Romanian Ambassador to NATO, Sorin Ducaru said that NATO continues to reaffirm its steady support for Moldova’s territorial integrity, being emphasized during the NATO Summits in Bucharest, Strasbourg, Lisbon and Chicago.<\/p>\n

“Regarding the specific situation in Transnistria, the allies [NATO member states] have promoted the respect for the principle of host country consent regarding the deployment of foreign troops on the territory of a state,” Sorin Ducaru said.<\/p>\n

The Romanian Ambassador emphasized that when we talk about Moldova-NATO relationship, it does not necessarily mean that we have to be refer to a military aspect of the relationship. He pointed out that the security term can be interpreted in several ways.<\/p>\n

“One of the important features of the NATO-Moldova cooperation is based on the Voluntary PfP Assistance Fond for pesticide and chemicals destruction,” Mr. Ducaru said.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador said that the NATO financial support will remove over 1,200 tones of pesticides from the Moldovan soils. He maintains that the environmental security is a very important way of cooperation, from which Moldova benefits the most.<\/p>\n

Sorin Ducaru also stated that although Moldova does not want to become a full-fledged member of NATO, their partnership is very fruitful. According to him, NATO does not put pressure on any states to join the Treaty.
