EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton appointed on Thursday a new Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova. His name is Pirkka Tapiola and will replace the current diplomat, Dirk Schuebel who will end his mission this year.<\/p>\n

Pirkka Tapiola works as advisor in the European Union External Action (EEAS) on developments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the EU Commission informed in a press release. He has some previous experience in diplomacy, being a former Finnish envoy with postings in Thailand and Ukraine, and working also as senior advisor at the Council of the European Union.<\/p>\n

Catherine Ashton said she is looking forward to work with the new diplomat as soon as his accreditation letter is accepted by the Moldovan authorities and once all administrative formalities are completed.<\/p>\n

"I am delighted to announce the appointment of these excellent candidates to head up three challenging EU Delegations abroad. Their talent and expertise are significant assets for the EU’s external action and I look forward to working with them in their new roles,” Catherine Ashton said, referring to all three newly-appointed EU Ambassadors to Moldova, Nepal and Venezuela.<\/p>\n

The new appointments are part of the 2013 rotation exercise within the European External Action Service. Current EU Ambassador to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel took office in 2009.<\/p>\n
