Moldovan Diaspora calls on the political parties of the ruling coalition in Moldova to stop the mutual threatening and nagging, and focus on the state interest instead of the personal ones.<\/p>\n

Issuing a joint statement, the Moldovan organizations abroad express their “deep concern regarding the events occurring in the political affairs of the Republic of Moldova.”<\/p>\n

Being signed by more than 35 Diaspora organizations from mainly Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Greece and other countries, the Moldovans working in these European states urge the authorities of their home country to put all their efforts in executing the main promises, namely to continue the negotiations of the Association Agreement with the European Union.<\/p>\n

The joint plea comes a day before a no-confidence vote against the government which is due to take place on Tuesday. The Communist Party sent in the Parliament a request to initiate a vote of no-confidence against the current cabinet led my Liberal-Democrat Premier Vlad Filat.<\/p>\n

All 34 Communist Deputies signed the proposal. There are 51 votes needed to remove the Government. Democrats (15 votes) said they are very likely to support the Communists’ initiative and vote in favor, whereas the Liberal Party (12 votes) and Liberal-Democrat Party (31 votes) said they will not support the no-confidence vote. There are nine more independent lawmakers.<\/p>\n

If the Democrats and two independent lawmakers will join the Communists by voting in favor, the Government will be removed gaining the minimum of votes needed.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the Diaspora calls on all parties to not support the no-confidence vote initiated by the Communists and continue to respect the commitment they have taken when the ruling coalition – the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) – was established.<\/p>\n

“Dear politicians, please be informed that a failure and mainly a breach of promise will lead to the loss of support of the ruling parties by the Diaspora,” the joint statement reads. “We look forward and want Moldova to succeed in its endeavors towards Europe, to see families reunite and move freely, more foreign investments in our country and more endemic goods on the European markets; we want rule of law and a better quality of life in the Republic of Moldova.”<\/p>\n

Romanian President Traian Basescu expressed concern about the no-confidence vote and hopes that Moldova “will not fail tomorrow.”<\/p>\n

“I whole-heartedly hope the Alliance for European Integration will stay in place because it is important – during the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius – Moldova to be whole and able to sign the Association Agreement between EU and Moldova,” Traian Basescu said in a comment for Digi24 news outlet.<\/p>\n

The Romanian President added that a political crisis will cause a lot of trouble to the citizens of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Amid such contentious political issues a group of Moldovans living in the Italian town of Castelfranco Veneto protested downtown on Sunday expressing their anger towards the actions of the Moldovan politicians.<\/p>\n

“Co-nationals from abroad cannot be indifferent about the latest developments back home; we hope our message will be heard by all parties,” said Ilona Miron, the head of “Connect Moldova” Association.<\/p>\n

The demonstrators carried banners on which could be read “Do not kill our European future” and “Keep Moldova’s chance in the EU.”<\/p>\n

A similar demonstration took place in Portugal on Sunday. The Moldovans said they are concerned by the latest from Moldova and issued their own plea.<\/p>\n

“We call on the common sense of our politicians and their commitment towards the European objective of the Republic of Moldova to favorably solve the existing misunderstandings and bring Moldova on its natural path towards a prosperous development,” their statement reads.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan Diaspora contributes significantly to the Gross Domestic Product of the country. The economy, strongly relying on remittances, gained $1.3 billion in 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
