Political instability has risen again in Moldova. Prime Minister Vlad Filat announced in a briefing today that his political party – the Liberal-Democrat Party – is leaving the ruling coalition, named the Alliance for European Integration (AEI).<\/p>\n

AEI was created in 2009 on a consensus of four political parties to stop a political hiatus and was designed to lead the country towards European integration. The current AEI 2 was established after reelections in Moldova in 2010. It was formed out of three political parties.<\/p>\n

Vlad Filat said that his coalition fellows have turned the country into an oligarchy with criminal clans. Although his party left the Alliance, he is ready to negotiate a new agreement to maintain the survival of the AEI.<\/p>\n

“The Liberal-Democrat Party pleads for negotiating a new agreement, one which will not foster mafiotic and group interests,” Premier Vlad Filat said in a posting on a social network. “This decision does not necessarily mean an exit from the AEI.”<\/p>\n

His coalition partner, the head of Parliament, Marian Lupu, who is also leader of the Democratic Party, said that Vlad Filat failed to accomplish his responsibilities and brought the country to a political crisis with his decision to leave the Alliance for European Integration.<\/p>\n

“Vlad Filat is afraid to admit in front of the citizens that he is not able to cope with the mission to efficiently lead the Government,” the representative of Parliament, Marian Lupu, said. “The Association Agreement with the EU will not be signed in November in Vilnius.”<\/p>\n

The Communist Party is, however, happy that the AEI is dismantling. According to them, the coalition died a long time ago.<\/p>\n

“Rest in peace,” said the Communist Party in a comment for Adevarul <\/a>newspaper.<\/p>\n

President Nicolae Timofti will start having bilateral talks with the leaders of each coalition party to overcome any political divisions, according to the press release of the Presidency. The institution, quoting the head of state, pointed out that Moldova has to continue its European path.<\/p>\n

“The head of state believes that the Republic of Moldova needs functional governance, with solid parliamentary support to enforce the political and structural reforms started in our country,” the statement shows.<\/p>\n

Some political analysts are concerned about the recent developments in Moldova. Political expert, Vitalie Ciobanu, stated for RFE\/RL<\/a> that the Prime Minister’s decision might endanger the country. He warns that Moldova might fall back upon reelections.<\/p>\n
