The European Court of Human Rights recently communicated to the Governments of Russia and Moldova about 8 applications that include 1651 complaints of Dubasari landowners and of 3 agriculture companies, dispossessed of their land. Plaintiffs are residents and citizens of Dorotcaia, Parata, Molovata-Noua, Pohrebea and Cocieri, which are located on the left bank of Nistru, and possess land near their villages.<\/p>\n

According to Promo-LEX lawyers, the problem of agricultural land, located on road route Tiraspol-Dubasari-Ribnita, appeared in 1998 in several localities, when representatives of the separatist regime installed "illegally" checkpoints on the route Tiraspol – Ribnita. "Installing these checkpoints allowed representatives of the separatist regime to harass plaintiffs and to capture these areas over the years, which can be considered a continuing violation of their rights", Promo-LEX lawyers beleive.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2004 agricultural season, landowners were denied access to their properties, by this losing ten of millions of lei. At the beginning of the agricultural year 2005, landowners were not allowed to process the land.<\/p>\n

Dubasari landowners protested in Chisinau and demanded Chisinau and Moscow Governments to take steps in order to meet the provisions of Moldovan-Russian Agreement of 21st July 1992, which guarantees the free movement in this area. "Governments’ actions were insufficient to guarantee the full observance of property rights. Therefore numerous farmers and landowners sent complaints to the Court", Promo-LEX added.
