The latest negotiations over the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union (EU) ended on January 22 in Moldova&rsquo;s capital of Chisinau with positive outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>As the EU Ambassador to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, said, &ldquo;the negotiations have now entered into the endgame.&rdquo; According to him, most of the articles in the Justice, Freedom and Security Chapter were agreed. These included the migration issue which is  a tough problem for Moldova and  needs to be tackled with a special consideration for the difficulties involved.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Due to the constructive engagement of both sides, it was possible to narrow down the number of outstanding issues in the negotiations on the Association Agreement, and substantial progress was achieved,&rdquo; Dirk Schuebel said in a statement for MOLDOVA.ORG.<\/p>\n<p>The Association Agreement supports reforms that are meant to lead to economic recovery, governance, sector cooperation, as well as the liberalization of trade between Moldova and the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The European official added that Transnistria-based companies were also informed during these negotiations about the outcomes and benefits of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA).<\/p>\n<p>DCFTA&rsquo;s aim is to build a closer economic integration with the EU by gradually liberalizing the trade of goods and services, diminishing the customs tax and lifting the quantitative restrictions. Such an agreement will make it easier for Moldovan enterprises to sell their goods on the European market and allow them to earn greater incomes.<\/p>\n<p>DCFTA is part of the Association Agreement, which, if implemented in due time, could be concluded and signed by the end of 2013 according to the President of the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Dirk Schuebel stated that concerning the DCFTA, issues like Intellectual Property Rights, Safety and Phyto-Sanitary Standards, services and tariffs on goods were the subjects tackled during the recent negotiations. <\/p>\n<p>Moldova-EU Association Agreement negotiations started in January 2010, whereas the negotiations on the trade part of the agreement &ndash; the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area &ndash; began in February 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Moldovan Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister, Natalia Gherman, announced at the end of 2012 that the negotiations on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union will be concluded during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Negotiations on the Association Agreement advanced quite a lot in 2012.
