Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara said in a press statement that his country &ldquo;will seek to make progress on resolving protracted conflicts, strengthening conventional arms control, combating human trafficking, reducing the environmental impact of energy-related activities, and protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian administration promised to have a strong involvement in the Transnistrian conflict settlement, since the country borders the separatist region. Furthermore, Minister Kozhara welcomed the achievements registered so far and urged for further progress. The Transnistrian conflict is being managed within the &ldquo;5+2&rdquo; talks, a format that allows the parties involved to be assisted and given mediation.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We must re-energize negotiations within the existing formats and prevent any escalation in tensions,&rdquo; Leonid Kozhara said. &ldquo;The resolution of protracted conflicts must remain the highest priority for the OSCE and all participating States.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) embodies 57 countries from Europe, Central Asia and North America.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the new Chairmanship is planning on focusing on energy security issues in terms of the environmental impact of energy-related activities. Both Moldova and Ukraine have a hard time negotiating a new contract with Russia to gain natural gas at lower prices. The proximity of the OSCE Presidency to Moldova might advantage it since Ukraine is interested in stability at its borders.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;One of the specific issues that merits a distinct place in our political dialogue within the OSCE is energy security, in particular its environmental aspects,&rdquo; the Ukrainian official said.<\/p>\n<p>Another objective of the Ukrainian Chairmanship is to make progress in arms control and confidence-building measures in order to bolster security and military stability.
