The so-called head of the Supreme Soviet of Tiraspol, Mihail Burla is very concerned about the negotiations over the free trade area between Moldova and the European Union, Novai Reghion news agency reported.<\/p>\n

He said in a meeting with the German Ambassador to Moldova, Matthias Meyer that the progress of the negotiations over establishing a free trade zone will affect the businessmen from Transnistria because some 30% of region’s exports are oriented towards EU.<\/p>\n

EU Ambassador to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said that although the Association Agreement will be signed in one year, the Transnistrian conflict will not be settled that fast. Therefore, the officials have to come up with a plan on how to integrate the separatist region to also benefit from the Agreement.<\/p>\n

“We have to think of the way we could integrate Transnistria,” Dirk Schuebel said, quoted by Adevarul newspaper. “No doubt, the best way for the region’s integration would be to join the Free Trade Agreement. This would be a logic step, since the enterprises will be subject to tax-free payments and not import tariffs.”<\/p>\n

The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova added that the businesses in Transnistria will suffer if the region will not join the Agreement.<\/p>\n

The EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area is part of the Association Agreement which started being under negotiation since January 2010. The free trade areas are expected to bolster Moldova’s export capacity. The agreement will basically open the European market of 500 million consumers.<\/p>\n

The European Union is Moldova’s first trading partner with more than 40% of Moldova’s total trade. This is followed by the Russian Federation and its neighbor Ukraine.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
