EU&rsquo;s Jose Manuel Barroso voiced in Chisinau few weeks ago that the Association Agreement will be signed by the end of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Such an agreement will ease the Moldovan enterprises to sell their goods on the European market and gain greater incomes. However, the head of the European Commission emphasized the need to continue reforms in order to bring the country&rsquo;s legislation in line with the European standards.<\/p>\n<p>Although Moldova is getting excited about such facilitations with the EU, the politicians in Chisinau do not put a strong emphasis on the economic environment in its separatist region of Transnistria.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Dirk Schuebel said in a statement for MOLDOVA.ORG that the Association Agreement will apply to the entire territory of Moldova, which includes Transnistria. The official suggests that the separatist region should also join the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) &ndash; which is a part of the Association Agreement &ndash; and benefit from the same facilities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We believe that it is even in the economic interest of the Transnistrian region to join the DCFTA,&rdquo; Dirk Schuebel said. He added that such a move is important for the region, since roughly 40% of the exports originating from Transnistria go to the European Union member states.<\/p>\n<p>According to the EU official, if Transnistria does not join DCFTA, the enterprises operating here will face regular import taxes while exporting to the EU once the Association Agreement is enforced.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If Transnistria should decide that it would not like to be part of the DCFTA and if it would thus not start the preparations in its institutions to apply the DCFTA, then Transnistrian companies will have to pay regular import duties when exporting to the EU once the Association Agreement is in force,&rdquo; Dirk Schuebel explained.<\/p>\n<p>Although currently most of the Transnistrian companies that trade with the EU do not pay import taxes due to the application of the system of Autonomous Trade Preferences (ATP), once the Association Agreement is signed, the taxes for the Transnistrian enterprises will vary between 5% and 20%.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If Transnistria decides to join the DCFTA, its companies will enjoy all the benefits Moldovan companies on the right bank will have including import tax free exports for the majority of its products,&rdquo; the EU diplomat said.<\/p>\n<p>The Moldova-EU Association Agreement negotiations started in January 2010, whereas the negotiations on the trade part of the agreement &ndash; Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area &ndash; began in February 2012.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>The European Union is planning on opening its doors to Moldova to access its market.
