The European Commission will send an assessment mission to Moldova at the beginning of 2013, Moldpres reports. The team is expected to evaluate the implementation of the second round of the Moldova-EU action plan on visa liberalization. They will also project an exact date when the Moldovans will be able to freely travel within the Schengen zone which encompasses 25 states in Europe.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Iurie Leanca said on Wednesday that Moldova has accomplished most of its commitments, but there are still a few shortcomings which must be eliminated by December 13, 2012, which is when the country’s Prime Minister, Vlad Filat is expected to deliver a report in Brussels on the implementation of the conditions of the second phase of the visa liberalization project. Vlad Filat will meet then with the EU Commissioner in charge with Home Affairs.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan officials said they are optimistic that their country will have a visa-free travel regime with the European Union by the beginning of 2014 once many reforms have been made in a record time.<\/p>\n

During his two-day visit to Moldova, the President of the EU Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, praised Moldova for its achievements so far and urged the people to continue doing so.<\/p>\n
