"Who is in contradiction with the principles of international law has a problem, be it one related to nervosity". This is the opinion of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Titus Corlatean. The feedback came after the statement of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who said that Moscow does not intend to ask Romania about opening a Russian consulate in Tiraspol.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to rfi.ro<\/a>, for Titus Corlatean the position of Moldova on this issue is more important than Russia’s. "I’ve already expressed earlier my opinion in public, sparking a nervy reaction of Russian officials, traditionally nervous! I say it clearly: it is natural to wait first for the reaction and the official position of Moldovan authorities. Furthermore, the assertion of international law principles, of principles related to the constant position of states, including Romania, on the Transnistrian conflict, namely that the breakaway region has not been recognized by anyone as an independent entity, is a matter of asserting known positions of states and Romania’s. There is no surprise that it is difficult to understand why anyone should or would like to open a consulate in an unrecognized entity. But again, the position of the state directly concerned, namely the Republic of Moldova, has priority.
