The regulation will no longer apply to Moldova after it passes both the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States of America. In a statement request for MOLDOVA.ORG, Steven Woehrel, Specialist in European Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade Division said that the House of Representatives will vote and approve the regulation on Friday, November 16.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Moldova Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) legislation is expected to be voted on (and approved) in the House of Representatives on Friday,&rdquo; Steven Woehrel said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the U.S. Senate will take up the bill during the last week of November.<\/p>\n<p>The official bill ready for being voted expresses the following content: &ldquo;Permanent Normal Trade Relations for Moldova authorizes the President to: (1) determine that the Jackson-Vanik Amendment should no longer apply to Moldova, and (2) extend permanent normal trade relations treatment to the products of Moldova.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The provision of this bill approves &ldquo;the extension of nondiscriminatory treatment&rdquo; to the traded products from Moldova. Russian Federation is also expected to face the same treatment within the framework of a joint bill that includes both Moldova and Russia to be exempted from this amendment.<\/p>\n<p>It is America&rsquo;s interest to release these countries from Jackson-Vanik Amendment due to the large export market which they provide, especially the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n<p>According to the experts in economics and development, if Russia establishes good trade relations with the United States, then the export to Russia will increase 1.5 times of its current amount.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Congress has learned that Moldova and Russia comply with the freedom of emigration requirements. Moreover, the countries joined the World Trade Organization.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By ending Jackson-Vanik and granting Permanent Normal Trade Relations to Moldova, Moldovan businesses would gain additional and privileged access to the U.S. export market. Moldovan goods currently have access to U.S. markets through exemptions to the legislation that have been applied on an annual basis,&rdquo; the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau told Moldova.ORG in August this year.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson-Vanik Amendment was imposed to the Soviet Union in 1974 on the grounds of human rights violations.
