Moldova has chances to join the European Union, but the process is going to take a while, says the Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau, Dirk Schuebel.<\/p>\n

“I do believe that Moldova has a real chance [to join the EU]; some others do believe, as well,” the EU Ambassador to Moldova said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to the European official, there are still a lot of reforms that need to be done. He urges both the political parties and the civil society to actively get involved in getting closer to the EU standards if this is their goal. One major problem Moldova currently deals with is the corruption which has to be fought against.<\/p>\n

“This will not come over night,” Mr. Schuebel explained. “The pure vision of having the EU perspective is a big incentive to move on for both the politicians and people of Moldova. It takes some time. More work is needed and everyone should participate in this progress. You do this for yourself, not for the European Union.”<\/p>\n

He assured the Moldovans that the European Union is ready to support them in any incentive they have, but the people and authorities just have to ask.
