The “5+2” negotiators of the Transnistrian conflict settlement have to move on to the implementation of the third set of actions related to security issues and political management of the conflict. The suggestion was brought out by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman for Transnistria, Erwan Fouere during a meeting of the mediators and observers of the Transnistrian conflict that was held on Tuesday in Chisinau.<\/p>\n

However, Fouere praised the progress achieved in the past months.<\/p>\n

“The meetings you had with the leader from Tiraspol, Evgheny Shevchuk prove a progress within the dialogue. They establish a favorable climate for bargaining,” Erwan Fouere said.<\/p>\n

Ukraine is the country due to take the chairmanship of the OSCE in 2013. On this behalf, the Ukrainian official in charge with the Transnistrian conflict, Igor Harcenko said that the resolution of this issue will be Ukraine’s number one priory during their chairmanship.<\/p>\n

“Ukraine will have a pro-active attitude regarding the Transnistrian conflict settlement,” Igor Harcenko said. “If there is a measure that would contribute to improve the situation, it will be applied.”<\/p>\n

According to the official, Ukraine has already appointed the person in charge with the long-lasting conflicts mediation within the framework of the OSCE Chairmanship in 2013. His name is Andrei Deschitsia.<\/p>\n

The next “5+2” talks will be held on November 27-30 in Dublin. <\/p>\n

Transnistria is an internationally unrecognized entity proclaimed in Tiraspol on September 2, 1990, initially styled the Moldavian Transnistrian Soviet Socialist Republic. Currently known as the Moldavian Transnistrian Republic, this breakaway entity consists of a narrow strip of land (180 km by 32 km) nestled between the east bank of the Nistru River and the border of Moldova with Ukraine, on a small part of what used to be, between 1924 and 1940, the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.<\/p>\n

In 1992 escalated a conflict between Moldova and Russia over this territory. A cease-fire was signed the same year by president of Russia Boris Yeltsin and president of Moldova Mircea Snegur. An agreement to withdraw all Russian forces from the trans-Nistrian districts of the Republic of Moldova was signed by Moldovan Prime Minister Andrei Sangheli and Russian Prime Minister Victor Chernomyrdin in 1994. It stipulated that the 14th Army was to leave the Republic of Moldova within three years, but the agreement was never ratified by the Duma, Russia’s legislature.<\/p>\n
