Ex-premier of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko went on hunger strike for the second time in the past months. This is form of protest against the preliminary results of the Parliamentary elections that were held in Ukraine on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to the current data, the ruling Party of Regions got 31.80% of votes so far. It is followed by Tymoshenko’s Party of Batkivshchyna with 24.23%. Communist Party of Ukraine was the third most popular party in this election scoring 13.88%. Although the final results are still unknown, UDAR with 13.48% of votes might outrun the Communist Party. The last party to enter the parliament is Svodobda with 9.62% of support from people.<\/p>\n

International observers issued a joint statement on Monday claiming multiple irregularities during elections.<\/p>\n

“This was the result, primarily, of the abuse of administrative resources, as well as a lack of transparency in campaign and party financing and of balanced media coverage,” the statement said.<\/p>\n

The observers said that several features of the pre-election period in Ukraine was “a step backwards” in comparison to the recent national elections. They also stated that the courts and the election commissions received “a high number of complaints and appeals.”<\/p>\n

“Ukrainians deserved better from these elections. The ‘oligarchization’ of the whole process meant that citizens lost their ownership of the election, as well as their trust in it,” said Andreas Gross, the Head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe delegation. “Unfortunately, the great democratic potential of Ukrainian society was not realized in yesterday’s vote.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
