Moldova appears to have strong support in Brussels after the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Füle, praised the ex-soviet state for their achievements so far in terms of reforms and development.<\/p>\n

In a two-day forum organized in Germany’s capital, Berlin, Moldova was on the minds of 150 officials from all over Europe. Speaking on the 22nd of October from Berlin, Stefan Füle pointed out that Moldova is closer to the European Union than ever before.<\/p>\n

“As Moldova comes closer every day to the European Union, I have a dream of a Republic of Moldova, prosperous, loyal to our values, consolidated, modernized, and re-integrated into the European family,” Mr. Füle said. “But it is more than a dream. It is a real prospect, solidly grounded in hard work and in pro-active diplomacy, which makes the European Union-Moldova relationship a solid, reliable, efficient and beneficial partnership.”<\/p>\n

The European official praised the Moldovan citizens and their Government for their remarkable commitment to the EU-Moldova joint initiatives. He added that Moldova has turned into a committed and reliable partner of the European Union.<\/p>\n

“Moldova has changed, and continues to change quickly,” the EU Commissioner said in Berlin on Monday.<\/p>\n

Amongst the officials who participated at the talks in Berlin was also the former EU envoy to Moldova, Kalman Mizsei, who is currently the co-chairman of the Roma Policy Board at the Open Society Institute. According to him, the EU-Moldova Forum might lead to some historical outcomes.
\n“This was a very meaningful conference with some potential historical achievements,” Mr. Mizsei said in a statement for MOLDOVA.ORG.<\/p>\n

The former EU Representative to Moldova underlined two important points from Mr. Füle’s speech. Kalman Mizsei said that Moldova is most likely to achieve a visa-free travel regime with the European Union by the end of 2013 and that Moldova merits a prospective membership.<\/p>\n

“Whereas the road ahead is still not going to be easy, this signal, together with German officials’ similar pronouncements, clearly opens the way for three important potential achievements, each of them with far reaching consequences for the people of Moldova,” Kalman Mizsei said.<\/p>\n

He explained that visa liberalization and the free trade agreement will attract more foreign investments in Moldova which could bolster economic growth.<\/p>\n

The Republic of Moldova’s efforts to make reforms and bring their legislation in line with the European standards have been recognized by important EU countries, such as Germany.
\nA visit to Moldova by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in August this year showed Germany’s support for the European integration of Moldova.<\/p>\n

In a recent statement for MOLDOVA.ORG, a spokesperson of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is up to Moldova and the European Union to further develop the action plan which they are currently working on.<\/p>\n

"The EU and the Republic of Moldova agreed upon a visa liberalization action plan aimed at visa-free travel. It is now up to the EU and Moldova to continue advancing this action plan,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

However, Germany welcomes Moldova’s achievements so far on visa liberalization action plan.<\/p>\n

“Germany would like to see progress in implementing this joint action plan and welcomes achievements of Moldova on this path,” the same source said.<\/p>\n
